About Banville & Jones

Banville & Jones Wine Co. was founded in 1999 by two sisters, Lia Banville and Tina Jones. Considering their Italian heritage, Lia and Tina were always interested in wine. Their dream of opening a private wine store in Manitoba became a reality when the Manitoba government continued the semi-privatization of the wine industry in 1998. Lia and Tina had a passion for wine and wanted to extend that passion to the consumers of Winnipeg.

Banville & Jones started their dream boutique in a 3800 square foot store on Meadowood Drive in Winnipeg. In November 2005 the store had outgrown its roots and moved to its own stand alone, 3 storey, state of the art facility on St. Mary's Road in St. Vital.

This Tuscan-inspired boutique has all of the best elements of a world class wine store. There are more than 3000 sku's of wine, gifts and gourmet items from every corner of the world. The retail floor boasts the most advanced wine retail shelving system with proper UV filtered lighting in every corner of the building. Our Specialties Cave is completely temperature and humidity controlled, perfectly designed for our rarest specialty wines.

In addition, our second floor Tuscan Room and Terrace is complete with a Kitchenaid Display Kitchen and outdoor fireplace. Our lower level Cellar houses more than 80,000 bottles in a temperature and lighting controlled environment.

Without a single compromise, it is here that Tina Jones and her team of knowledgeable and friendly staff continue to provide the highest quality service and selection to their retail customers and to the best restaurants in Winnipeg. Banville & Jones Staff

Leading our knowledgeable wine staff is Gary Hewitt, a long time wine aficionado and Ceritfied Wine Educator (1 of only 5 in Canada). Gary has developed a solid reputation for leading fun, educational wine tastings and seminars. His already broad knowledge of wine is constantly being augmented. Gary regularly attends the Society of Wine Educators annual conference held in various city's and wine growing areas throughout the United States and is a Certified Sommelier Instructor for the program offered by the International Sommelier Guild. Gary is heading up our educational seminars, and is always available to talk about the latest happenings in the wine world!

Our in-store team is headed up by Mike Muirhead. In addition to day-to-day operations Mike is also Banville & Jones' representative to the many restaurants that we service in Winnipeg, helping to develop and plan their wine menus.

To help in the running of the store are assistant managers Saralyn Mehta and Jill Kwiatkoski. While Saralyn focuses on Customer Service and Merchandising, Jill's focus is coordinating special events.

A very knowledgeable and committed staff make shopping for wine at Banville & Jones an experience. We, as a team, have tasted a great portion of the products in our store, which enables us to give our customers educated recommendations.
